Piano Teaching
Enjoy piano lessons with Christopher in his studio
in Sutton Coldfield or learn remotely over Zoom
Christopher first started teaching the piano as a postgraduate student at The Royal College of Music. He currently offers lessons at his home studio in Sutton Coldfield where pupils can enjoy playing on an excellent Yamaha acoustic piano. Thanks to the wonder of digital technology, Christopher can also enable students to experience the sound of playing a concert grand piano at the famous Abbey Road Studios in London, or even do a recording!
If you are unable to attend face-to-face lessons, lessons can be arranged and delivered remotely using Zoom (all you need is a phone, tablet or laptop).
Christopher teaches children and adults of all ages and standards, from complete beginner to Grade 8. Some students choose to work towards formal piano examinations or grades, whereas others simply play for pleasure. Classical, jazz, pop and film music styles can all be explored. Whatever your level or interests, enjoyment is always the top priority. Music theory lessons are also available on request.
Over the past twenty-five years, many of Christopher's students have attained new goals, passed their examinations with distinctions, won prizes in music festivals and even had success in international competitions. Several have gone on to study Music at leading universities such as Cambridge, Edinburgh and Durham and embarked on their own musical careers.
Since graduating from the Royal College of Music in London, Christopher has taught at several independent schools as well as at the Birmingham Conservatoire Junior Department and the Royal Academy of Music in London. Whilst living in London he was appointed to teach the family members of Pete Townshend, Adrian Edmondson, Jennifer Saunders, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Gyles Brandreth and Sir Laurence Olivier. He has also given masterclasses at home and abroad under the auspices of The British Council and received invitations to adjudicate at Music Festivals in Birmingham and Hong Kong.
Christopher is a member of the ISM, the UK's professional body for musicians. He has an enhanced DBS check and is fully insured.
Most students find that 30 minutes a week is sufficient to make good progress, but longer lessons are available if required. Parents are invited to sit in on their child's lessons and this can be very useful for monitoring progress.
